Damascus, SANA- President Bashar al-Assad participated Sunday in the religious celebration held by the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) in commemoration of the birth (al-Mawlid) of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), at the Great Umayyad Mosque in Damascus.
President al-Assad performed the noon prayer led by Sheikh Khudher Shahrour, Director of Awqaf in Damascus Countryside.
The celebration began with a recitation of verses from the holy book of Qur’an by Sheikh Salim al-Akkad.
Delivering a speech during the ceremony , Minister of Endowments Mohammad Abdul-Sattar al-Sayyed pointed out to the great meanings of this honorable anniversary, in addition to the morals and values included in the biography of the Prophet, which are an example for the whole humanity in respecting human rights.
The Prophet’s message and belief built civilization, enriched science, formulated values, preserved the family unit, respected and valued women, along with protecting children’s rights, al-Sayyed went on to say.
Minister al-Sayyed indicated that more than 1,400 years ago, the noble Prophet established the first constitution for citizenship considering patriotism the highest level of theism.
“ The Prophet also instilled great values in the souls, including the Shura (consultation) which embodies the true principles of man,as well as spreading the most significant values such as justice, equality, the call for dialogue, wisdom and good advice.
“Syria withstood thanks to the valor of its army and people, and with the wisdom of its leader, President al-Assad, who launched many projects from Aleppo to Adra Industrial City, and at the same time, he follows up on the issues of the families of the martyrs ,the wounded and orphanages”, Minister al-Sayyed added.
The celebration was concluded by supplication by Sheikh Muhammad Tawfiq Ramadan al-Bouti, Head of The Union of Scholars of the Levant, asking God to preserve Syria along with its people, army and leader.
