Al Nawfara Café… a history full of memories

Al-Nawfara Café is the oldest café in Damascus, the capital of the Syrian Arab Republic. It is more than 500 years old
The café was named Al Nafara after the fountain that was flowing 4 to 5 meters high in a nearby lake.

Al-Nawfara Café is located in the Al-Nawfara neighborhood. It overlooks the southern rear of the Umayyad Mosque.

It consists of an indoor hall with an area of 60 square meters that can accommodate 24 tables, each seated for 4 people, it also consists of an outdoor hall of 30 meters A square that accommodates 12 tables, each with one person seated.

In Al-Nufara, the chairs are made of wood and the small round tables are made of iron, all made according to the old folk style.

What distinguishes the café is its ancient architecture, in addition to the distinctive view of its courtyard paved with black basalt stones. Also, its unique location made it a must-visit for any wanderer in the Old Damascus area after visiting the Umayyad Mosque.

Al-Nawfara Café preserves the ancient heritage of the old Damascene cafés, represented by the presence of the storyteller.

As listening to the stories of the storyteller is a tradition found in the old cafes of Damascus.

Visitors to the café also pass through the famous Hamidiya Market which is one of the ancient covered markets in Syria.
