China summons US ambassador to protest against Pelosi’s Taiwan visit

Beijing, SANA- The Chinese Foreign Ministry has summoned the US ambassador to Beijing, Nicholas Burns, to hand him a note of protest against US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan.

“Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Xie Feng has been authorized to urgently summon US Ambassador to China Burns to the Foreign Ministry to express protest to the United States on behalf of the Chinese government over the visit of US House Speaker Pelosi to Taiwan,” the ministry said in a statement.

Earlier, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi strongly condemned Pelosi’s visit, saying it was shameful for the United States to fail its promise on the Taiwan issue, which will only further bankrupt its national credibility, stressing that the “One China” principle is the consensus of the international community.
