65 injuries, no deaths in earthquake, Health Ministry says

Damascus, SANA- The Ministry of Health announced that 65 minor to moderate injuries were recorded, three of which required surgery, without any deaths being recorded due to an earthquake that struck eastern Hama city on Monday.

The Ministry  stated in a statement that 65 injuries were caused by panic attacks (stampede and falls), noting that al-Salamiyah National Hospital dealt with 67 panic cases.

The Ministry affirmed that all cases of panic and injuries received the necessary medical services in hospitals or during safe transport through ambulance and emergency vehicles that were on alert and immediate readiness.

In turn, the director of Salamiyah National Hospital, Dr. Osama Melhem said in a statement to the reporters that dozens of people were rushed to the hospital with injuries and bruises, noting that the necessary first aid and treatment were provided to them.

On Monday, an earthquake measuring 5.5 on Richter scale struck east of Hama city at 11:56 p.m., followed by a number of weak aftershocks.
