On the 199th anniversary of Brazil independence Day… historic relations with Syria boosted by civilized bond

Damascus, SANA- Brazil celebrates on Tuesday the 199th anniversary of Independence Day, at a time when it faces Corona pandemic which imposes many challenges in various economic and social fields. Meanwhile, Brazil supports the reform of international systems and defends international law, multilateralism and the UN Charter.

Brazil and Syria are linked by historic friendly relations that have been boosted by a cultural and civilized bond due to the presence of a Syrian community which was found in Brazil at the end of 19th century, and estimated at 4 million citizens who contribute to the development of Brazil in various fields.

The two countries signed a number of bilateral agreements in health, agriculture, tourism, sports and culture fields.

The Brazilian embassy continued its work in Damascus during the terrorist war on Syria, and repeatedly renewed its support for finding a political solution to the crisis in the country, and it has affirmed its country’s stance in rejecting terrorism.

Several visits were exchanged by the two countries’ delegations since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1945, the last of which was at the parliamentary level in January 2018, as a Brazilian delegation visited Damascus and met a number of members of the Syrian-Brazilian Parliamentary Friendship Committee and representatives of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce in Syria.
