President Putin: Western sanctions on Syria are illegitimate

Moscow, SANA- Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed on Friday that the Western sanctions imposed on Syria are illegitimate and complicate the economic and social situation in the country.

“ We have informed the German partners of our vision of the situation in Syria, where the cessation of hostilities agreement is still applied in most of its territory and the destroyed economy and infrastructure are being rebuilt, but the terrorist threat still remains there .” President Putin said during a press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Moscow.

Putin added “We attach great importance to Resolution 2585, which stipulates providing comprehensive humanitarian assistance to Syria, and this matter was largely a result of the agreements during the Russian-American summit in Geneva last June and we hope that European countries, including Germany, will join efforts exerted to help the Syrian people.”.
