Moscow, SANA-Moscow said Thursday it has doubts over the effectiveness of the strikes directed by the US-led coalition against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist organization.
Alexander Lukashevich, spokesman of the Russian Foreign Ministry said during a weekly meeting with journalists that his country is worried about the mounting capabilities of the ISIS in Iraq and Syria.
“We are very worried over boosting the sites of ISIS through supplying it with new gunmen,” Lukashevich said.
He added his country has doubts on the effectiveness of the US strikes against ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra if the latter will not cooperate with the Syrian government in combating terrorism.
The Russian diplomat affirmed that it is impossible to overcome that danger without holding a consolidated cooperation with the Syrian government, adding the US and its allies didn’t achieve any success up till now against the extremist gunmen.
Lukashevich reiterated his country’s firm stance on supporting “the decisive combat” carried out by the Syrian government against terrorists, saying that there is no military solution to the crisis in Syria which leads to the need for activating the political efforts aiming at launching a Syrian-Syrian dialogue, based on Geneva communiqué of 2012.
