Patriarch Aphram underlines importance of inter-Syrian dialogue

Damascus, SANA – Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All East Mar Ignatius Aphram II stressed the role of an inter-Syrian dialogue to have Syrians of different backgrounds talk about the future of their country and means of reconstruction, calling upon “the opposition” to work for Syria.

The Patriarch affirmed in an interview with the Syrian TV on Wednesday that what Syria has been going through throughout the past four years is an outcome of alien ideologies that some sides tried to instill among the Syrian community.
“We encourage initiatives adopted by the government through national reconciliations among people and we consider them the way out for ending the crisis and halting bloodshed” the Patriarch added.

He called upon Christian and Muslim clergymen to spread awareness and be alert of ideas strange from the Syrian society, stressing that meetings among clergymen are important as they constitute a step that would be followed with others on the ground.

Patriarch Aphram II urged western governments to stop imposing their will on Syrians.
