Mikdad meets Bogdanov and Ryabkov …discuss latest developments in Syria

Moscow, SANA- Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Dr. Faysal Mikdad discussed on Friday with Russian President’s Special envoy for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, developments of the situation in Syria and the efforts exerted to reinforce security and satiability.

The two sides expressed their satisfaction over the success of the International Conference on the return of refugees recently held in Damascus and the importance of continuing efforts to facilitate the voluntary return of the refugees and put an end to the politicization of the humanitarian situation practiced by western countries to serve its agendas in Syria.

They also reviewed developments of political process, stressing that this process should be led and possessed by Syria and among the Syrians without any external interference in its work or its results.

The two sides agreed to follow up the coordination and consultation between the two friendly countries in this field.

Mikdad, Ryabkov condemn attempts of Western countries to politicize OPCW and deviate it from its charter and goals

Later, Mikdad  met Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Sergei Ryabkov  with the two sides discussing  efforts exerted   by Syria to carry out its obligations following its  joining  to Chemical Weapons Convention.

Ryabkov hailed the cooperation made by Syria with Technical Secretariat of Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons “OPCW” which led to full fulfilment to its obligations under Chemical Weapons Convention.

The two sides condemned the attempts of Western countries to politicise the organisation and divert it from its charter and goals, stressing that these attempts endanger the organisation and make it lose its credibility and independence, using it to serve the objectives of Western countries at the expense of its technical work that has been defined by Chemical Weapons Convention.

Mikdad  expressed his appreciation for Russian stance regarding the need of the neutral role to which the organisation must adhere to in preventing the spread of chemical weapons, condemning  attempts of some Western countries to cheaply exploit   the organisation and target  Russian  Federation  particularly of so-called “  Navalny Affair”.

At the end of the meeting, the two sides agreed to continue communication and coordination between their delegations at OPCW, aiming at preserve the role of organisation and stop all forms of weakening it, so that others couldn’t deviate it from its goals stipulated in the charter and procedures of its work.
