Damascus, SANA_ The People’s Assembly in its 20th session of the 1st ordinary round of the 3rd legislative term chaired by its Speaker Hammouda Sabbagh on Monday discussed the performance of Culture Ministry and issues related to its work.
At the beginning of the session, the Minister of Culture, Dr.Lubana Mshaweh, presented the ministry’s objectives and programs, including the implementation of projects for the preservation and restoration of archaeological sites, training and qualifying cadres, and securing equipment to complete the excavations and registration of archaeological sites using the geographic information system, while some stolen archaeological pieces were recovered in cooperation with international organizations, friendly countries, and Syrian expatriates abroad.
Minister Mshaweh confirmed that the ministry has worked to include the “Shadow theatre and Damascene Rose” on international heritage and cultural lists, and a project has also been initiated to restore the monument of the Great Syrian Revolution in al-Qraya town in Sweida.
A number of MPs called for paying attention to archaeological sites and raising the compensation of teachers in the institutes affiliated to the ministry and rehabilitation of the Directorate of Culture in Aleppo, the Cultural Center, the construction of the Music Institute in Aleppo, and other issues related to the ministry’s work.
