556 tons of pistachios exported to Europe and Arab countries

Damascus, SANA- Syria has exported 556 tons of pistachios this year, including 212 tons of pistachios and 344 tons of green pistachios to Canada, Germany, the European Union and a number of Arab countries, according to a statement by the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform.

Director of the pistachio office at the ministry, Eng. Hassan Ibrahim, told SANA that 80 percent of the total pistachio crop has been harvested so far, and that the harvesting operations continue, pointing out that the farmers of Aleppo have started harvesting their crops since last July from various production areas in Syria.

He added that the prices of a kilo of green pistachios ranged this year between 6,500 and 7,500 Syrian pounds.
Ibrahim affirmed that the office staff supervise the marketing operations at the al-Hal Souk, in addition to giving certificates of origin to the border points through which the export operations takes place.
