Lahore, Pakistan, SANA- Standing relations between Syria and Pakistan and means of enhancing them in the domains of parliaments and combating terrorism were on the table during a meeting held Monday in Lahore between Speaker of the People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Laham and Chairman of the Pakistani Senate’s Defense Committee, Senator Mushahid Hussain.
Both sides stressed the necessity of further developing relations between People’s Assembly and the Pakistani National Assembly to serve the interests of both friendly peoples.
Al-Laham talked about the terrorist war launched against Syria by the Takfiri organizations backed by Turkey, the West and some Arab countries, calling for adopting a firm stance towards all countries and international and regional organizations with regard to countering terrorism in implementation of the UN Security Council’s relevant resolutions.
For his part, Hussain, who also chairs the organizing committee of the Asian Parliamentary association meetings being held in Lahore, referred to Syria’s participation in the meetings to explain the reality of what is taking place in Syria.
Hussain stressed that his country is closely following up what is taking place in Syria, expressing confidence that the Syrians are able to defeat terrorism, hailing the historic relations binding Syria and Pakistan.
Earlier, Speaker of the People’s Assembly reviewed with Nguon Nhil, first vice president of the Cambodian National Assembly the situation in Syria and fighting foreign-backed terrorism against it.
The two sides, whose meeting came on the sidelines of the 7th plenary of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) currently held in Lahore, stressed the importance of boosting bilateral relations, particularly the parliamentary, between Syria and Cambodia, emphasizing the importance of joint coordination on the regional and international levels.
Nhil said no one in the world has the right to interfere in the domestic affairs of a sovereign state. “Only the Syrian people can decide what they want. Since the Syrian president was elected by the public and so was the parliament, no one has the right to interfere in Syria’s internal affairs,” he added.
He hoped that the Syrian People’s Assembly will take part in APA next session to be presided over and hosted by Cambodia.
