Fires at Arab gas pipeline due to terrorist attack extinguished, situation to return to normality in coming hours

Damascus, SANA- The firefighting and civil defense teams were able to completely extinguish the fire that broke out on the Arab gas pipeline between al-Dumair and Adraa areas, after it was subjected to a terrorist attack on Monday dawn.

Caretaker Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Eng. Ali Ghanem said that the explosion on the Arab gas pipeline resulted from a terrorist act, adding that after putting out the fire completely, immediately, technical inspections began on the pipeline to conduct maintenance and replace the damaged parts, and in the coming hours, the power stations will be supplied with gas and the situation will return to what it used to be before the terrorist attack.

In a statement to SANA, Minister Ghanem added “We have been able to separate the sectionalizing valves of this pipeline, which has a diameter of 36 inches and a capacity of 7 million cubic meters of gas daily, according to their stages which means that we separate the location of the damage or the terrorist attack on this pipeline, as we start to refeed al-Nasiriya and Jander stations with gas and the power starts to return gradually.”

Caretaker Minister of Electricity Eng. Mohammad Zuhair Kharbutli, for his part, said that the power will be gradually restored to all the Syrian provinces including Damascus City center.

In a statement to SANA, Minister Kharbutli added “Power has been restored to some of the important and vital facilities in Damascus such as the hospitals and some of the residential neighborhoods, and it has been partially restored in the provinces of Homs and Hama and the coastal region till the gas pipeline will be fixed and the electricity situation will return to normality.”

Kharbutli added that all the technical workshops whether at the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources or at the Ministry of Electricity and at the generation plants and the electrical system are fully prepared to restore the electrical supply to what it used to be during the coming period.

The Arab gas pipeline between al-Dumair and Adraa areas in Damascus Countryside which feeds the southern region was subjected to a terrorist attack on Monday dawn which led to a blackout in Syria.
