British journalist: Trump’s justifications for maintaining sanctions on Syria hypocritical

London, SANA – British journalist Patrick Cockburn criticized the insistence of American President Donald Trump to continue imposing sanctions on Syria in light of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

In an article published in the Independent, Cockburn pointed out that the justifications of American administration to impose sanctions against Syria, particularly the so-called Caesar Act, are hypocritical, as the act affects the Syrian people’s livelihood.

He added that Syria and its allies have already won the war militarily, but “US wishful thinking does have the potential to further devastate the lives of millions of Syrians.”
