Damascus, SANA- Damascus University granted first PhD degree in journalism for student Falak Sabeera at Media Faculty, Press and Publication Department, for her doctoral thesis under the title “Investigative Reporting in the Arab Press”.
The jury granted student Sabeera the PhD degree in Press with distinction level with 93 degrees.
In her doctoral thesis, Sabeera dealt with the investigative reporting published at the Arab dailies, mainly Syrian Tishreen, Egyptian al-Ahram, Saudi al-Riyadh and Algerian Ech Chaab newspapers from 2015-2018.
Dean of Media Faculty and the supervisor at the jury Mohammad al-Omar, referred to the importance of the topic that Sabeera has discussed in her thesis which is the Investigative Journalism that the Arabic journalism dramatically needs in this phase to uncover the defection and corruption in the institutions and in all domains.
He added that the investigative reporting requires a long time and big efforts to be exerted by a group of journalists to reach the desired outcome.
In turn, student Sabeera said that the investigative journalism needs exceptional efforts and more of cooperation between journalists to produce joint investigative, referring to the importance of cooperation among Arabic newspapers to investigate joint issues among the Arab countries, and activating the press units specialized in the investigative journalism.
In 2017, Higher Education Council approved to grant a PhD degree in Media Faculty.
