Health Ministry calls on citizens to be very careful in light of increased risk of Coronavirus outbreak

Damascus, SANA- Health Ministry affirmed that the current epidemiological situation of the Coronavirus outbreak entails extreme caution and taking the highest level of precautionary measures such as social distancing, avoiding gatherings and crowded places, wearing masks, and paying special attention to elderly people with cardiovascular problems, diabetes and other chronic diseases that weaken immunity.

In a statement on Thursday, the Ministry said that “The risk of the Coronavirus pandemic in Syria increases after registering 717 infections in 10 provinces coinciding with the passage of six months since the World Health Organization declared covid-19 as a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC), and declared it two days ago as the most serious global health emergency after the coronavirus infections surpassed 16.5 million.

The Ministry indicated that “The infections recorded in Syria are for cases whose infection have been proven through the result of the laboratory examination PCR only, while there are occasional cases.”

The statement indicated that it does not have the capabilities in light of the economic blockade imposed on the country that affected the health sector with all its components to conduct general swabs in the provinces, which highlights the necessity to adhere to the individual prevention measures to control the outbreak and protect everyone.

The Ministry stressed the need to adhere to the preventive measures during Eid al-Adha holiday to prevent the increase in infections that may occur due to the large gatherings, home visits and some social customs.

The ministry stated that the ambulance and emergency departments continue to work in hospitals around the clock to receive the patients, as well as the health centers in different provinces and the ambulance system on the national level during the holiday.
