Economic Forum in Tehran introduces Iranian companies to investment opportunities in Syria

Tehran, SANA-  The Forum of Business and Economic Opportunities with Syria on Tuesday kicked off at headquarters of the Trade Promotion Organization (TPO) at the Iranian capital city of Tehran.

The Forum aims to introduce the Iranian private sector to the investment opportunities in Syria and to increase its presence in Syria in the upcoming phase to rehabilitate the productive sectors and establish economic partnerships with the Syrian private sector and enhancing cooperation and expanding trade exchange.

Participants in the Forum discussed means of facilitating measures on the level of bank transfers and transport lines by the two governments and the bodies concerned in a way that would contribute to the flow of goods between the two countries to be able to face of the repercussions of the U.S. embargo and unfair sanctions imposed on them.

In a speech during the Forum, Syria’s Ambassador in Tehran Adnan Mahmoud expressed Syria’s readiness to provide assistance and incentives for the Iranian companies from the public and private sectors to make joint investments in the domain of reconstruction.

Ambassador Mahmoud pointed out to the strategic agreement between the two countries on the joint investment and cooperation, noting that there are a lot of investment opportunities in all domains, including the construction of housing units, infrastructure projects, and rehabilitating factories, ensuring raw material and activating free trade between the two countries.

Mahmoud added that the two governments signed a memo of understanding between the Syrian and Iranian commercial banks to solve the problem of financial exchanges, asserting that the memo stipulates for opening new branches for the two banks and the establishment of a common bank.

The Ambassador said that the formation of a maritime and land transport company to transport goods is also a priority for both governments.

For his part, Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade and Head of Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPOI) Hamid Zaadboom said that there are a lot of opportunities for cooperation and increasing the volume of trade and investment exchange between the two countries.

In turn, Head of the Iranian-Syrian Joint Chamber of Commerce Kiwan Kashifi stressed the importance of the private sector in developing and enhancing trade relations and increasing the volume of trade exchange between the two countries.

Kashifi added that there are wide range of joint work, cooperation and investment in Syria, hailing the facilitations provided by Syria for making investments in it.
