Syria participates in FAO General Conference, Rome

Rome, SANA-With the participation of Syria, the 41st Session of the General Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) on Saturday started activities in the Italian capital city of Rome.

Participants in the seven-day conference will discuss several issues such as the (State of Food and Agriculture), (Migration, Agriculture and Rural Development) and (The International Code of Conduct for the Sustainable Use and Management of Fertilizers), in addition to (Promoting Healthy Diets and Preventing all Forms of Malnutrition.)

Heading the Syrian delegation to the conference, Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform Eng. Ahmad al-Qadiri said “Syria’s participation in the conference sheds light on its significant role in the agricultural domain.”

Al-Qadiri added that the participation will be also an opportunity for allowing the participants to get acquainted with the repercussions of unilateral coercive economic measures imposed on Syria which affect the farmers and the agricultural sector.

” The agricultural sector in Syria is witnessing a notable recovery and the agricultural products are returning to reach the same production figures which they used to reach before,” Minister al-Qadiri affirmed.

He hailed the FAO’s cooperation with Syria for alleviating he repercussions of war on the agricultural sector in the country.

FAO General Conference is held every two years with the participation of representatives of the FAO members states whose number is 94 to discuss several issues such as the amendment of the FAO Constitution and revising the financial regulations and other issues.
