Moscow, SANA- Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov reaffirmed that the US through the illegitimate presence of its forces to the northeast of Syria aims at hindering the exerted efforts for reaching a solution to the crisis in the country and the full liberation of its territories from terrorists.
Following the end of talks between US Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his US counterpart Mike Pompeo in Sochi on Tuesday, Ryabkov was quoted by Sputnik as saying “I would like to affirm that we are still worried about the US presence behind the Euphrates and we consider that as an intentional mistake which aims at blocking any solution towards restoring Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
However, Moscow believes that the talks between ministers Lavrov and Pompeo would contribute to finding solutions, Ryabkov added.
Earlier on the day, Lavrov affirmed at the conclusion of his talks with Pompeo the necessity of respecting Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and the full elimination of terrorism in it, in addition to finding a solution to the crisis in the country according to the Security Council’s resolution No. 2254.
