Mikdad meets UNHCR new Ambassador, stresses need for considering neutrality

Damascus, SANA-Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad received on Tuesday credentials of the new Ambassador of the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) in Syria Ayaki Ito.

During the meeting, Mikdad affirmed the importance of continued cooperation between the Syrian government and the UN Refugee Agency during the terrorist war on Syria, hailing the contributions offered by the UNHCR over the past years to alleviate the health and economic impacts Syria has encountered.

He called for taking into consideration the principle of independence and neutrality while doing humanitarian acts and keeping away from any politicization.

For his part, Ito appreciated the Syrian cooperation with the UNHCR and the outcomes reached by the two sides in fulfilling their humanitarian missions.

He stressed that the UN organization will cooperate with the Syrian government to ensure a good return for the Syrian refugees to their Homeland.
