Tehran, SANA – UN Special Envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura reiterated that the political solution is the sole choice for ending the crisis in Syria and the only means for helping the Syrians draw a better future.
During his meeting with Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdullahian in Tehran on Monday, de Mistura considered that any political solution should take into account the new incidents on the Syrian arena, calling at the same time upon Iran to help in crystallizing a track for a political solution in Syria.
The two sides pointed out to the pivotal role of all spectrums of the Syrian people in determining their future, stressing the need for facilitating the process of the political track by all effective countries and sides.
For his part, Abdullahian, expressed his country’s readiness to cooperate and provide assistance for solving the crisis in Syria politically, clarifying that Iran supports Syria and Iraq strongly in countering terrorism as it respects their sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Abdullahian expressed regret over the relationship of some sides with terrorists in coincidence with their participation in the “international alliance” against the terrorist organization of “the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria” (ISIS), warning that the establishment of a buffer zone inside Syria will complicate the situation.
