Hama, SANA-Torrential rain over the past couple of days has caused floods that swept through the locals’ houses in Shatha town in Hama Western countryside, causing large-scale material damage to their properties.
Head of the town’s council Amir Mahfoud said that the damage was most observable in the Western neighborhood, al-Yanabee’ Street, al-Toot quarter and the main street where most of the houses and streets were inundated with water, rock and mud.
The mountainous area west of the town witnessed fires during summer which deprived it of its vegetation, raising the likelihood of powerful floods which could change their natural course.
In a relevant context, Hama governor Dr. Ghassan Khalaf called, during an emergency meeting with the municipal council and representatives of service bodies in Shatha, for providing emergency aid to the afflicted that included 100 food baskets, 50 utensils’ baskets, 100 blankets and 100 woolen covers.
He demanded an appraisal of the damage inflicted on properties and infrastructures be done for compensating the locals for their losses.
