Syria participates in International Conference on Defense & Security in West Asia, Tehran

Tehran, SANA-The International Conference on Defense and Security in West Asia kicked off on Sunday at the Supreme National Defense University in the Iranian capital of Tehran with the participation of 40 states including Syria.

The Conference aims to come up with a future cooperation memo that would be the basis for finding a common platform for military cooperation among the West Asian states.

Participants in the conference exchanged viewpoints on the most important security issues and challenges in West Asia for guaranteeing a more secure and stable future for their countries, in addition to discussing new prospects for cooperation among them.

During the conference, Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami condemned the US policies towards the region, indicating that the Western colonial ambitions have been the main source of the schemes which target the regional states.

Hatami added that establishing an “Israeli” entity was like a bleeding wound according to the public opinion in the region.

For his part, Defense Minister Mahmoud Shawa said in statements on the sidelines of the conference that holding such conferences will build bridges of cooperation among the states of West Asia and will disclose the falseness of the states which are trying to spread lies with regard to what is taking place in Syria.

Shawa affirmed that holding such conferences explain the other opinion for the whole world as the West is trying through its mass media to falsify facts about terrorism and the role of the hostile Western states and their tools in the region in supporting terrorism.

Earlier on the day, Hatami and Shawa discussed the bilateral relations between Syria and Iran on the sidelines of the conference.
