Syria, UNICEF discuss mutual cooperation

Damascus, SANA-Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Dr. Fayssal Mikdad discussed on Sunday with UNICEF Executive Director Henrietta Fore and the accompanying delegation issues related mutual cooperation and means of enhancing it during the coming period.

In this context, Dr. Mikdad underlined the important role of UNICEF and the noble mission of the organization which cares for children all over the world, indicating that Syria’s children are the generation who will rebuild what the terrorist war against Syria had destroyed.

Mikdad added that Syria is working hard along with UN organizations, particularly UNICEF, to meet children’s needs across Syria, most notably in the areas that the Syrian army liberated from terrorism, and to restore educational institutions that terrorist organizations destroyed in these areas.

Mikdad also highlighted the role of international organizations and UNICEF in providing help to the children of displaced people who returned to the homeland and enabling them to return to their normal life as soon as possible.

He stressed the necessity for denouncing the heinous crimes of the US-led Coalition in northeastern Syria which are targeting scores of women and children on a daily basis, not to mention the practices of Kurdish militias in northern Syria, among them depriving thousands of children of their right to education.

Fore, for her part, affirmed that UNICEF is a partner with the Syrian government with regard to keeping track of the situation of Syrian children, indicating that the organization aspires for more cooperation with the Syrian government at all levels and is open to all that could help and provide support for children in health, educational and development fields.

Fore exchanged views with the Syrian side regarding the Organization’s work, hoping that cooperation will be considerably enhanced in the coming stage as the situation is being continuously stabilized.
