Colorful umbrellas in Tartous to raise awareness on breast cancer early detection

Tartous, SANA- The Syrian Radiology Center in Tartous chose to use colorful umbrellas as a theme to participate in the national campaign to raise awareness of early detection of breast cancer which coincides with the month of global awareness of the disease.

Speaking to SANA, Radiologist Mais Aboud said that the Center chose to hang umbrellas in al-Manshia Street in order to draw the attention of passers-by, especially women, to the early detection of breast cancer and its importance in achieving better treatment results and higher cure rates.

She pointed out that the initiative has received a positive impact on the ground and on the social networking pages as it raised questions about the reason for the presence of umbrellas as it caused a greater desire of women to identify the subject of early detection and encourage them to conduct the examination.

The Center is going on its initiative by reducing prices of mammograms and eco-images within the period of the national campaign and in coordination with the Syrian Development Trust, according to Aboud.

She added that the number of women who conducted the examinations reached to 30 women daily compared to nearly 5 women in the ordinary days.

October is linked to the pink color to raise global awareness of the breast cancer, the most common cancer among women, with 2 million new cases worldwide in 2018, according to figures from the Global Fund for Cancer Research.

Locally, breast cancer is also classified as the most common cancer among women by 30 percent, according to the National Cancer Registry of the Ministry of Health, which provides free survey and treatment services to all its patients.
