Sila shoes expo augurs return of Syrian leather industry to local and external markets

Damascus, SANA- More than 120 specialized companies in the leather and footwear industry from Syria and four Arab countries participated in Sila shoes expo which was held from 23 till 26 September at the Damascus New Fairground City.

The expo is an indication of the return of shoes and leather industries to the local and external markets after eight years of crisis in Syria.

Sales manager at Pedro Stepanian Shoes Manufacturing Company, Bashar al-Basit said that the company has faced many problems and challenges due to terrorism and the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed on Syria, particularly in terms of importing raw materials, yet the company has not stopped production and resorted to alternative sources to ensure the continuity of work and production.

For his part, Iyad Amer, a shoes trader indicated that the shoes market in the expo witnessed a large turnout as it is an opportunity to restore trade relations with foreign markets as before.

In turn, Abdulqader al-Sayed clarified that he had recently resumed producing leather belts in Aleppo after he had moved his workshop to Lattakia during the crisis, considering that the expo is an opportunity to declare the return of this industry to the local and external markets.
