Al-Moallem: Any effort for combating terrorism should comply with international law

New York, SANA- Deputy Premier, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem said any effort for combating the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), al-Nusra Front and other organizations is “a good thing,” but it should comply with the international law.

Al-Moallem remark came during his meeting with his Belarusian counterpart Vladimir Makei in New York on Monday on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings.

Al-Moallem explained Syria’s stance regarding the necessity of binding the countries which are financing, arming, and training terrorists to carry out the UN Security Council’s resolutions related to countering terrorism of the ISIS and al-Nusra Front and the other terrorist organizations and to abstain from offering any kind of support.

Talks also dealt with the developments in the region, the bilateral relations and the meeting of the Syrian-Belarusian joint committee scheduled by the end of this year.

For his part, Makei stressed his country’s firm and persistent stance regarding supporting the Syrian government and rejecting any foreign interference in its internal affairs.

The Belarusian Foreign Minister said that his country supports Syria’s views for dialogue without pre-conditions and that the inter-Syrian dialogue is the only guarantee for solving the crisis in Syria and restoring security and stability to it.

The two Ministers stressed the importance of developing bilateral relations between the two countries in all domains.

Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Dr. Fayssal Mikdad, Syria’s Permanent representative to the UN Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari and Advisor of Foreign and Expatriates Minister Ahmad Arnous attended the meeting.
