Damascus, SANA- Health Ministry works on launching regular anti-polio vaccination campaigns across Syria to immunize children as the vaccines are bought from major international companies with high qualities and competence.
A new anti-polio vaccination campaign will be launched Sunday by the Ministry in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
The one-week long national campaign targets about 2.7 million children under five regardless of their previous vaccines.
Health Minister Nizar Yazigi said that the new campaign targets about 2.7 million children under five regardless of their previous vaccines.
He added that the vaccines are safe and of high quality as the Ministry has taken all technical and logistic procedures to make the campaign a success .
Health centers, 3800 mobile teams, 4200 health workers and about 500 volunteers are engaged in the campaign, according to the Minister .
The WHO Representative in Syria, Elizabeth Hoff, said: ” Our message to all Syrian families is crystal clear which is the inevitability of providing polio vaccines to all children during every campaign with a view to strengthening the immunity of these children against polio all throughout their lives”.
She added:” WHO continues to provide technical support of the implementation of the polio vaccination campaign in cooperation with the Ministry of Health through the provision of the appropriate training of vaccinators as well as through providing logistic support to distribute the vaccines to all health centers and mobile teams, let alone the renting of the necessary vehicles that transport the mobile vaccination teams in order to reach every child”.
Hoff underlined the importance of distributing polio vaccines to all areas in the governorates especially hard-to-reach areas with a view to vaccinating all children against polio and making Syria again a polio-free country.
