OPCW ready to send its experts to Syria’s Khan Sheikhoun

Hague, SANA- The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) is ready to send its experts to Khan Sheikhoun in Idleb countryside.

“The team is ready to go there and we have volunteers,” OPCW Director General Ahmet Uzumcu said on Friday, adding that OPCW has not yet come to a conclusion on who is responsible for the chemical weapons incident in Syria.

“This area is controlled by different armed opposition groups, so we need to strike some deals with them, we need to assure a temporary ceasefire,” he said, pointing out that the Syrian government has voiced its support for sending a team of experts.

Last week, the majority of members of the OPCW rejected a proposal submitted by Russia and Iran to set up a new team to investigate allegations of chemical weapons being used in Khan Sheikhoun in Idleb countryside and to visit al-Shairat airport, which been attacked by the United States, to verify the US allegations of stockpiling chemical weapons in it.
