Five breaches of cessation of hostilities observed in Damascus Countryside

Lattakia, SANA – The number of breaches of the cessation of hostilities agreement rose to 754 after 5 new breaches were observed in the past 24 hours.

According to the Hmeimim-based Russian center monitoring the agreement, which came into effect on February 27, the new breaches were committed by the so-called “Jaish al-Islam” terrorist organization in Damascus Countryside.

The center explained in a statement on Tuesday that Jaish al-Islam terrorists targeted with mortar rounds positions of the Syrian army in the towns of Jobar, Harasta, Erbin, Douma and Housh al-Fara.

The number of towns that have joined the cessation of hostilities agreement rose to 177, the center noted, adding that the number of armed groups that announced commitment to the agreement remained 61.

On the other hand, the Russian center said terrorist groups of Jabhat al-Nusra and ISIS continued attempts to undermine the agreement, targeting with mortar and artillery rounds the towns of Handarat and al-Hader and the neighborhoods of al-Sheikh Maqsoud
and al-Khalidiyeh in Aleppo, in addition to shelling Hteitet al-jarash, Harasta al-Qantara, al-Bahariyeh in Damascus Countryside and Deir Touma village in Lattakia.

The cessation of hostilities agreement is not applicable to ISIS, Jabhat al-Nusra or other groups designated internationally as terrorist organizations.
