Syria welcomes Swiss Federal Council decision to lift economic sanctions

Damascus,SANA-The Syrian Arab Republic welcomed the Swiss Federal Council’s decision, issued on June 20, 2025, to lift economic sanctions imposed on Syria, considering it a positive step in the interest of the Syrian people and contributing to supporting reconstruction efforts and economic recovery.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said in a press release that it views this decision as consistent with the spirit of international law and the principles of respect for state sovereignty. It affirms that the sanctions imposed on Syria have been and continue to be an obstacle to meeting the basic needs of the Syrian people and hinder the path to development and stability.

It added that the Syrian Arab Republic expresses its appreciation for the balanced Swiss position and hopes that other countries will follow the example of Switzerland and the European Union, contributing to enhancing opportunities for the voluntary and safe return of Syrian refugees and supporting efforts to reach a political settlement led by Syrians themselves without foreign interference.
