Transport Minister explores proposed amendments to Traffic and Vehicle Law to enhance road safety

Damascus, SANA- Dr.  Ya’rub Badr , Minister of Transport, held discussions with a specialized committee regarding proposed amendments to the current Traffic and Vehicle Law. The review aims to align the law with modern technological and traffic developments while enhancing road safety.

During a meeting at the ministry headquarters in Damascus Tuesday, Minister Badr emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts among relevant entities to develop a traffic law that addresses contemporary challenges. He underscored the need to focus on protecting lives and property while ensuring the effective and fair enforcement of regulations.

Badr stressed the necessity of presenting clear proposals for any legal amendments to guarantee the issuance of a modern, forward-thinking law that meets expectations, serves citizens, and establishes a safer traffic environment.

For their part, Committee members provided detailed explanations of the specific articles to be amended and discussed the challenges faced, including administrative hurdles within transport directorates.

Among the committee’s proposals were the abolition of income tax fees, adjustments to fuel price discrepancies, new pricing for vehicle-related stamps and fees, and the removal of mandatory insurance requirements for vehicle registration or license renewal.

The committee is set to continue its meetings over the coming weeks to finalize the amendment proposal and submit it to the relevant authorities for approval.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister of Transport for Land Transport Affairs, Mr. Mohammad Rahhal.
