Aleppo, Aug. 27 (SANA) Sixty-one families voluntarily left camps in Azaz in northern Aleppo countryside on Thursday to return to their home areas in the countryside of Aleppo, Hama, Idlib, Raqqa and Homs, as efforts continue under the “Syria Without Camps” initiative.
The convoy was organized by the Directorate of Social Affairs and Labor in cooperation with the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and partner organizations.
Hassan Nader, deputy director of Social Affairs and Labor in Aleppo, told SANA the return was part of efforts to achieve the “Syria Without Camps” vision and help displaced families restore stability and normal life.
He said coordination with partner organizations was continuing to provide basic needs for families returning to their villages and towns.
Rebuilding life after displacement
Abdullah Muwaffaq al-Nawaf, who returned to Homs countryside after being displaced and living in camps since 2016, welcomed his return home but called for support to rehabilitate damaged houses and provide schools, drinking water and development services.
The convoy is the latest in a series of voluntary returns from camps in northern Syria. On Aug. 20, 184 families returned to southern Idlib countryside, while 217 families returned earlier this month to their home areas in the countryside of Idlib, Hama and Damascus.
