Damascus, Sept. 1 (SANA) One person was killed and 16 others injured in traffic accidents and fires across Syria over the past 24 hours, the Syrian Civil Defense said Tuesday.

Civil Defense teams responded to 14 traffic accidents that killed one person and injured 15 others, according to a statement posted on Telegram.

Emergency crews provided first aid to the injured and transported them to hospitals for treatment. Teams also cleared debris and secured the accident sites.

Separately, Civil Defense crews responded to 47 fires across the country, including blazes at homes and shops and fires involving grass, trees, waste and electrical wiring. One person was injured, while other damage was limited to property.

The Civil Defense urged people to avoid lighting fires in forests and agricultural areas and warned against discarding cigarette butts or glass containers along roadsides, particularly near crops and wooded areas.

It also advised against burning dry grass near homes and roads, calling for it to be removed safely to reduce the risk of fires.

The latest incidents follow a series of fires and traffic accidents on Sunday that left two people dead and 37 others injured across Syria.
