Damascus, Aug. 23 (SANA) Two people were killed and 21 others injured in traffic accidents and fires across Syria over the past 24 hours, the Syrian Civil Defense at the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management said.
The Civil Defense said Sunday its teams responded to 19 traffic accidents, leaving two people dead and 20 injured. Teams provided first aid, transported the injured to hospitals and secured the accident sites.
It urged drivers to reduce speed, check their vehicles, brakes and windshield wipers, and avoid distractions such as using mobile phones while driving.
Teams also responded to 98 fires involving homes, shops, grass, trees, garbage and electrical wires. One person was injured, while the remaining damage was limited to property.
The Civil Defense urged people to avoid lighting fires in forests and agricultural fields, throwing cigarette butts or glass containers along roads, and burning dry grass near homes and roadsides.
Twenty-six people were injured Friday in separate fires and traffic accidents across Syria.
