Damascus, June 29 (SANA) Syrian officials and a German development delegation met in Damascus on Sunday to discuss recovery priorities and ways to strengthen cooperation in support of Syria’s health sector and broader development efforts.
The coordination workshop brought together representatives from Syria’s Health Ministry, Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the German Development Bank (KfW), the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), the German Embassy in Damascus and several Syrian government institutions.
Held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, the meeting focused on aligning development assistance with Syria’s national priorities, restoring essential public services and supporting infrastructure rehabilitation.
Participants also discussed mechanisms to improve coordination and ensure that future development projects respond to the country’s recovery needs.
Alaa al-Din Abdeen, director of Planning and Statistics at the Health Ministry, said the workshop helped define priorities for the health sector during the next phase, including strategic planning, strengthening health information systems and investing in primary healthcare services and the health workforce to build a more resilient healthcare system.
The meeting forms part of the Health Ministry’s efforts to expand international partnerships to support the health sector. In February, the ministry, in cooperation with the European Union, the World Health Organization and Italy’s UPP organization, launched two projects aimed at strengthening primary healthcare, improving health governance and enhancing crisis response in Syria.
