Damascus, Sept. 14 (SANA) Minister of Public Works and Housing Mustafa Abdul Razzaq discussed with Ömer Bulut, Türkiye`s Deputy Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, and his accompanying delegation prospects for cooperation in housing, reconstruction and urban planning.
During a meeting on Monday, Abdul Razzaq outlined Syria’s housing needs, estimated at around two million homes. He said the ministry is working to replan areas affected by destruction and make optimal use of state-owned land through partnerships aimed at providing housing for different segments of society, particularly low-income families.
Abdul Razzaq expressed the ministry’s interest in benefiting from Türkiye’s experience, particularly that of the Housing Development Administration (TOKİ), Emlak Konut and the Turkish General Directorate of Construction Affairs, with a view to transferring relevant expertise to Syria’s General Housing Establishment and the Syrian Construction Company (SEBCO).
For his part, Bulut presented Türkiye’s experience in reconstruction and housing development following disasters, saying Turkish expertise could be adapted to Syria’s circumstances. He also highlighted Syria’s potential for achieving significant urban development.
The two sides agreed to prepare a memorandum of understanding to establish a framework for cooperation, with specialized technical meetings to be held in preparation for practical joint steps.
