Damascus, May 30 (SANA) The National Commission for Transitional Justice affirmed on Saturday that the case concerning the fate of the six children of Dr. Abdul Rahman Yassin, husband of Dr. Rania al-Abbasi, represents one of the painful humanitarian cases reflecting the suffering of thousands of Syrian families, stressing that efforts to uncover the full truth and achieve legal accountability remain ongoing.
In a statement received by SANA, the commission said it is following the announcement made earlier by the National Commission for Missing Persons regarding the findings of investigations into the fate of the children, after years of pain and waiting endured by the family and all those who followed the case, which has become one of the symbolic cases of enforced disappearance in Syria.
The commission noted that the case encapsulates the suffering of thousands of Syrian families still awaiting answers regarding the fate of their loved ones, underscoring the importance of continuing national efforts to fully uncover the truth without exception and preserve the rights of victims and their families to knowledge and justice.
The commission explained that uncovering the fate of the victims, despite its profound humanitarian and moral importance, does not close the case or end the path toward justice, but rather opens the door to completing the investigation into all facts and circumstances surrounding the case and identifying those responsible, regardless of who they are or the entities behind them.
It added that it continues to support truth-seeking and legal accountability mechanisms in coordination with the relevant authorities, in a manner that ensures accountability for all those proven to have been involved in crimes and gross violations committed against Syrians, while reinforcing the principle of ending impunity as a necessary foundation for building trust in institutions and achieving justice for victims and their families.
The commission affirmed that the full truth is not limited to knowing the fate of victims alone, but also includes understanding what happened, how it happened and who was responsible, in a way that contributes to preserving the national memory and preventing the recurrence of such violations in the future.
Earlier on Saturday, the National Commission for Missing Persons announced that it had reached reliable and corroborated findings indicating, with a high degree of professional certainty, the death of the six children of Dr. Rania al-Abbasi.
