Damascus, May 21 (SANA) Syrian Interior Minister Anas Khattab said on Wednesday that Syria would not become a transit route for narcotics or a safe haven for traffickers, after authorities said they had seized 25 million Captagon pills in a major anti-smuggling operation.
Khattab described the operation as evidence of Syria’s growing role in international anti-narcotics efforts.
“The latest of these achievements was the foiling of a major smuggling attempt and the seizure of 25 million narcotic pills,” Khattab said in a post on X. “Syria will neither be a transit route nor a safe haven for these poisons.”
His remarks came after Syria’s Drug Enforcement Directorate said it had arrested seven people, including the leader of a trafficking cell linked to an international smuggling network.
The Interior Ministry said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks and limit the spread of narcotics.
