Tartous, May 13 (SANA) Two transit ships arriving from Romania docked Tuesday at Tartous port carrying about 32,000 head of livestock, including sheep and calves, for onward transport to Jordan by land.
Officials said the first vessel carried 500 calves and 15,000 male sheep, while the second transported 16,000 male sheep.
Mohannad Qaddour, head of the Health and Animal Production Department at the Tartous Agriculture Directorate, said veterinary and health inspections were conducted before the livestock was cleared for transit.
Riad Joudi, customs director at Tartous port, said the arrivals reflected growing transit activity and increasing regional confidence in the port as a logistics hub.
Tartous port has seen rising commercial traffic in recent months amid efforts to strengthen Syria’s role as a regional transit corridor linking Mediterranean trade routes with neighboring Arab markets.
