Damascus, April 30 (SANA) Abdul Basit Abdul Latif, head of the National Authority for Transitional Justice said on Thursday that the arrest of Major General Adnan Abboud Halloua, a senior officer in the ousted regime and a key figure linked to the chemical attacks on Eastern Ghouta, reflects the governments’ ongoing efforts to achieve accountability. and transitional justice.

Abdul Latif said in a post on X on Thursday that the arrest demonstrates ongoing accountability efforts. He stated that “there is no statute of limitations on war crimes” and war crimes remain subject to prosecution regardless of the passage of time.

Interior Minister Anas Khattab announced on Wednesday that Halloua is now in custody under the Counter-Terrorism Directorate, identifying him as one of the senior officials associated with the Ghouta attack.

Officials said the move reflects a broader effort to pursue accountability for crimes committed during the conflict and to ensure that perpetrators do not evade justice.

In a related development, authorities said Amjad Youssef was detained on April 24 following a security operation in the Sahl al-Ghab area of Hama province. He is identified as a key perpetrator in the 2013 Tadamon massacre, in which dozens of people were killed.
