Washington, April 24 (SANA) U.S. Special Envoy to Syria Tom Barrack on Friday welcomed “the arrest by Syrian security forces of Amjad Youssef, known as the infamous ‘Tadamon Butcher,’ responsible for committing horrific atrocities against Syrian civilians.”
In a post on the X platform, Barrack said: “This arrest represents a strong and serious step away from impunity and toward accountability. It is an example of the emerging new model of justice in post-Assad Syria—one rooted in the rule of law, national reconciliation, and the equal application of justice regardless of past affiliations.”
Barrack stressed that U.S. President Donald Trump and the United States stand with the Syrian people in supporting genuine justice, the new rule of law, and efforts to help heal the nation’s wounds.
Earlier today, the Syrian Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of Amjad Youssef, the main suspect in carrying out the Tadamon neighborhood massacre in Damascus in 2013, which claimed the lives of dozens of innocent people and was later documented by international investigations that sparked widespread shock due to its brutality.
The Tadamon massacre took place on April 16, 2013, in the Tadamon neighborhood south of Damascus, at the height of the security campaign launched by the deposed regime against areas outside its control. According to local and human rights documentation, unarmed civilians were arrested, blindfolded, and bound before being taken to a site of mass execution.
