Damascus, March 12 (SANA) The Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management provided on Thursday a comprehensive briefing during its virtual participation in the International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG) meetings. The briefing detailed the primary challenges Syria has faced in recent years, stemming from both the war and the devastating earthquake that struck several provinces on February 6, 2023.
Ahmed Ekzayez, Deputy Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management, highlighted the extensive efforts of national cadres to build an integrated disaster management system. This system spans from risk reduction and preparedness to emergency response, recovery, and reconstruction phases. Ekzayez emphasized the “Comprehensive National Plan for Disaster Risk Reduction,” noting that it is in its final stages and is strictly aligned with the “Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction” while remaining adapted to national capacities.
Furthermore, Ekzayez underscored the importance of Syria’s presence within the INSARAG platform. He stated that international coordination, the exchange of expertise, and joint training according to global standards are essential for enhancing the capabilities of the Ministry’s response teams.
Syria’s active engagement in INSARAG aims to elevate the efficiency of rescue operations and minimize human loss through the adoption of rapid response mechanisms and international best practices.
