Damascus, Feb. 28 (SANA) The Syrian Civil Aviation and Air Transport Authority announced the temporary closure of the southern air corridors in Syrian airspace to aircraft traffic, starting today, Saturday, February 28, at 12:00 p.m. Damascus time, for a period of 12 hours, due to the ongoing escalation between Iran and Israel.
In a statement published on its Telegram channel, the Authority explained that this measure comes as part of its commitment to ensuring the highest standards of air safety. It noted that during the closure period, air navigation will be managed through approved alternative routes to guarantee smooth traffic flow and the continuity of operational activities in accordance with applicable air‑traffic management systems.
The Authority added that it is monitoring developments around the clock and will announce any updates in due course, reaffirming its full commitment to ensuring the safety and security of civil aviation and the continuity of air traffic in line with relevant international regulations and agreements.
Earlier on Saturday, the United States and Israel carried out a joint airstrike on Iran, targeting dozens of sites and facilities in the capital Tehran and other cities.
