Munich, Feb. 14 (SANA) – U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio underscored his country’s support for a stable, peaceful Syria that protects the rights of all citizens.
In a statement issued Saturday, U.S. Deputy Spokesman Tommy Pigott said Rubio met with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
During the meeting, Rubio stressed U.S. support for a Syria at peace with its neighbors, protecting the rights and safety of all citizens.
Pigott added that Rubio welcomed the Syrian government’s commitment to full cooperation with the United States and the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS. He also emphasized the importance of implementing the ceasefire agreement and integrating the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) into state institutions, while ensuring the rights and safety of all Syrians.
The deputy spokesman said SDF commander Mazloum Abdi attended the meeting between al-Shaibani and Rubio.
On Friday, the Syrian delegation, headed by al-Shaibani, held a meeting with Rubio to discuss cooperation and regional developments. They reaffirmed Syria’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
