Damascus, Jan. 9 (SANA) President Ahmad al-Sharaa met on Friday with European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at the People’s Palace in Damascus. Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani was also present.

The leaders discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between Syria and the European Union, with a focus on reconstruction and strengthening stability in Syria and the region. Talks also focused on economic partnerships, sustainable development, humanitarian issues, and migration in Europe.

Both sides emphasized the importance of preserving Syria’s territorial unity and expanding political dialogue to serve the interests of the Syrian people and support a balanced and constructive partnership with the EU.

Earlier in the day, the EU delegation toured Jobar neighborhood in Damascus, which was heavily damaged as a result of bombing by the deposed regime.
