Idlib, Feb. 8 (SANA) – Idlib Governorate announced on Sunday that dozens of displacement camps were affected by recent storms and flash floods, with damage recorded in 24 camps sheltering 931 families — a total of 5,142 people.
The governorate’s media directorate said in a statement that the impact ranged from partial to complete destruction. Seventeen camps suffered full collapses, leaving 494 families without shelter or belongings, while seven other camps sustained partial damage affecting 437 families.
Field response teams are continuing assessments to document losses and identify urgent needs ahead of delivering emergency assistance. Direct coordination is underway with service and humanitarian agencies to ensure a rapid and effective response, particularly in Kherbet al‑Jawz, where immediate relief measures have been activated for affected families.
Local authorities are monitoring the situation around the clock to ensure swift intervention, alleviate suffering, and secure essential supplies for displaced residents.
The media directorate expressed appreciation to journalists and media outlets for their prompt coverage, noting the crucial role of reporting in highlighting civilian needs and supporting humanitarian response efforts.
Heavy rainfall across northern and western Syria on Saturday triggered severe flooding that swept away and submerged tents near seasonal waterways in camps around Kherbet al‑Jawz, prompting urgent evacuations and the opening of temporary shelters for displaced families.
