Damascus, Feb. 8 (SANA) The Ministry of Defense has placed a number of its bodies, departments and teams on special standby, acting on direct instructions from Defense Minister Maj. Gen. Murhaf Abu Qasra, to support other ministries in responding to natural disasters, the ministry’s Media and Communications Department said.
In a statement to SANA, the department said the ministry will provide all necessary assistance to support residents affected by the floods in the Idleb and Lattakia countrysides, as part of coordinated government efforts to address the impact of the flooding.
Heavy rainfall over northwestern Syria has caused flash flooding in recent days, particularly in low-lying areas and displacement camps built near seasonal waterways. The floods often lead to damage to tents and infrastructure, disrupt road access and force temporary evacuations, with schools and public facilities frequently used as emergency shelters for affected families.
