Damascus, July.16 (SANA) Syria’s National Commission for Missing Persons is drafting legislation on missing persons through a nationwide consultation process involving families of the missing, victims’ groups, civil society organizations and international organizations, a senior Commission official said on Thursday.

Legal adviser Anwar Majni said around 500 stakeholders had registered to participate in the consultations, which aim to shape a comprehensive legal framework governing the Commission’s mandate, the rights of missing persons and their families, data management, mass graves and international cooperation.

Majni said the draft would be prepared over three months before being submitted to the People’s Assembly for consideration.

He added that the process is independent and based on transparency and public participation.
