Damascus, Jan. 15 (SANA) Syrian Minister of Information Hamza al-Mustafa met on Wednesday with the Chargé d’Affaires of the Swedish Embassy in Damascus, Jessica Svardström, to discuss the challenges facing the media sector in Syria, particularly disinformation.
During the meeting, Minister al-Mustafa highlighted that the ministry’s strategy focuses on opening up space for public, private and independent media.
Al-Mustafa stressed that the Syrian people have high expectations regarding freedom of speech, as well as the work of state institutions. He noted that since the start of the Syrian revolution in 2011, over 1,000 media platforms have been established.

For her part, Svardström affirmed Sweden’s support for Syria’s stability and the creation of a stable and sustainable media environment. She said: “We want to get a clear and accurate picture of the new Syria, because I know you have many challenges,” expressing her happiness at being in Syria as Sweden’s representative.

This meeting is part of a series of meetings held by Minister al-Mustafa with ambassadors and diplomatic representatives in recent days. He has met in the past two days with the Turkish Ambassador in Damascus, Noh Yilmaz, and the UK’s Special Envoy to Syria, Anne Snoop, to discuss the state of media in Syria, the challenges it faces, and ways for international cooperation.
